To most library users the book return chute is just a slot in the wall outside the library that allows them to return their borrowed books after hours.
But Library Managers know different!
Books are expensive, heavy and easily damaged if dropped any distance onto a hard surface, so the equipment behind the hole in the wall is critical to getting those books back to their place on the shelves, without damage.Library Managers know that special bins are needed which automatically adjust in depth as they are filled with books.
The return chute also has to be vandal-proof, weatherproof and attractive.
Scanning on entry. Of course, books or other items aren’t officially returned until they are scanned back in. So, return chutes that scan them on the way in are a big labour-saving plus.
Genre sorting. A return chute linking to a system for sorting returned books into genre locations in different bins adds to the efficiency of the re-shelving process andis a desirable addition for big libraries.
Multiple design options. Clearly there is a lot more to a return chute than a slot in the wall and we have been supplying a wide range of different designs and systems for Australian libraries for decades.
All of the options can be found on the QLS website and the links below can take you directly to the type of return chute system that you could be interested in.
