BACKGROUND
To go exploring in a new part of the world, most tourists will drop their bags at the airport or train station. These baggage storing services aren’t just convenient for travellers, they’re often a vital source of income for the facility.
When Broome Airport needed a new set of lockers to better serve travellers to the area, it turned to Lockers Australasia and Stronghold to find a functional solution that could handle heavy traffic.
THE PROJECT
Lockers Australasia and Stronghold worked together to design and manufacture 30 very large baggage lockers, set in 10 three-door columns, plus a control module for customers to make payments and unlock their locker.
Lockers Australasia and Stronghold worked on a design for a larger locker using heavy-gauge, thicker steel, which was more sturdy to handle stowed baggage.
The overall design of the lockers included some customisation based on technical specifications - primarily, the need for the lockers to take credit card payments - and the client’s needs. Stronghold modified the design to suit.
“Nick at Stronghold has made modifications. This is another one of their talents - if we want modifications, they’re very good at making those modifications,” says Mark Reinstein, Director at Lockers Australasia.
“They’ve done some modifications to the control module, to how it looks and how some of the technology looks.”
Adding payment facilities to lockers greatly increases the complexity of the project. Lockers Australasia and Stronghold needed to make many allowances for the technology to ensure it was easy for customers to use and reliable.
“You have to install credit card readers from the right suppliers. The banks have to approve the credit card machine. And you need 4G modems to connect to the internet,” says Mark.
THE RESULT
The lockers were installed remotely due to Covid-19 restrictions. Lockers Australasia guided the local installers through the process using Teamviewer and FaceTime calls.
Broome Airport was thrilled with the result, and are looking to add more lockers to their facilities.
“They’re loving the product,” says Mark.
“They’re talking about ordering more.”
WHY STRONGHOLD
Lockers Australasia works exclusively with Stronghold and its sister company AMD, because their local production makes delivering work so much easier. Stronghold can also modify any design to suit its purpose, and has a wide array of customisation options.
“If there were any changes that were required, Adam at Stronghold was incredibly capable, versatile, flexible, and very nimble in how they just produced any sort of changes,” says Mark.
Our steel lockers are fully customisable and perfect for any use - whether it’s for your customers to use, your staff, your students or your community group.
