Downlights

Downlights have been adopted as a popular choice for modern renovations and new homes. Because of their simple and elegant design, downlights blend in seamlessly with their surroundings.

You can create any atmosphere you desire with downlights that come in a variety of colours, tones and brightness levels. When used in combination with other lighting sources, downlights can create a mood and brightness within an area, while also saving space, money and energy.

Downlights fulfil three main functions for interior lighting. These are:

     • Enable localised tasks

     • Create ambience

     • Illuminate the space

Recessed downlights can be found above the ceiling line. This type of fixture is ideal for situations with a clear ceiling or an uninsulated ceiling.

Understanding how to place downlights in the right way and when to use them is crucial to creating the space you desire. Incorrectly placed downlights can make your home feel like a showroom or furniture store, taking away from the beauty of the space.

Fixtures should be placed near visual landmarks, such as a sink. Mounted fixtures should be placed slightly to the side, slightly in front or slightly behind the task to minimise glare.
