Most home-owners have access to proper sanitation in their homes, yet not many know how their flushing system works. The daily misconception is that ‘they all work the same way’ when in actual fact, they don’t.
The key component that powers a flush is of course, water. Nonetheless, there are several types of flushing system, each having its own pros and cons. The most common ones are washdown flushing system and 360°/siphonic flushing system. So what’s the difference? Let’s find out!
WASHDOWN VS 360°
Washdown flushing system – uses the water from the tank to pour into the bowl and washes the material down the outlet. It is only a “pushing” action and does not evacuate the bowl.
360° flushing system – uses the trapway filled with water during the flush which initiates a siphonic action, “pulling” material out of the bowl while the water enters the bowl from the tank through the jet and the rim “pushes” material out. This simultaneous pushing and pulling completely evacuates the bowl during every flush.
Traditionally, a washdown flushing system was the solution for most home-owners. However, people are slowly starting to opt for a 360°/siphonic flushing system as their preferred choice due to the various benefits it carries along.
With this in mind, TOTO has developed an advanced, modern feature in their toilets to showcase their high-efficiency flushing system.
Introducing TOTO’s Tornado Flush
TOTO Tornado Flush is an integral feature in every new TOTO toilet. This completely new flushing system cleans and flushes both the rim and bowl in the most effective way possible. It does this by reimagining the way a toilet flushes.
The science behind the flush is that instead of letting water pour down from the rim (washdown), the Tornado Flush projects powerful jets of water from inside the bowl which creates a strong whirlpool effect (360°) that bundles the force of the water for thorough cleansing. Not only does this make cleaning the inside of the bowl far more thoroughly than any other flushing systems, it is also quieter than conventional flushes and is water-efficient.
