A record of houses lived in and loved by their inhabitants, 50 years on, is like water to the soul of the thirsty architect. I Never Met a Straight Line I Didn’t Like is a photographic portrayal of 12 houses designed and built in Christchurch during the 1960s and early 1970s, presenting the brilliance and quirk of architects during this time. Straight lines do not imply a lack of personality and authors Gaudin and Arnold have selected the best remaining examples of the ‘Christchurch Style’ to prove this; in doing so, they also demonstrate good design prevailing with time.

Thirty projects from across Aotearoa have been shortlisted for this year’s Interior Awards across nine categories, from futuristic workplaces to heartwarming kitchens and much more. Interior editor of Architecture NZ and convenor of the jury Amanda Harkness said, “True to form, we received an incredibly wide range of projects this year and, in some categories, the calibre of entries was so high it was a real challenge for the jury to choose just three finalists.” Close scores resulted in four finalists in some categories.
